  1. I think I prefer the second set of logos over the first ... I really like the idea of the pencil ... did you try adding color to the second logo at all? I think color is important to your overall concept since it is a creative type company.

  2. I encourage you to continue revising #1 (pencil/dot), as it has more elements that are already working when compared with #2. The nice part about #2 is that when you spend time with it, you notice this playful interaction occurring between the r, i, and n. It's too subtle to be working, but that playfulness is nice whereas #1 still feels a bit sharp and off-putting. This could be softened by other identity elements, but still needs to be considered as an immediate reaction to just the logo. What could you do to #1 to soften the fringe, and combine what is working in #2 (the subtly) with what is working in #1 (the memorable letterforms and extrapolated interactions between them)? Definitely remove the strokes that hint at a pencil– this can be added in other applications, but is too detailed for the logo. consider the overall shape as well as the 'fringe' elements that extend beyond the shape– give those a bit more character and deliberate handling (i.e., pay attention to the areas I circled on your roughs). Definitely consider your color scheme in relation to the logo and its shape. Consider how this logo plays with color, even if it always appears in black (which seems like too easy of a solution right now). The symbol you started to work with (#3) added a playful quality, but still wasn't quite working. Focus your time on the wordmark, but play with that symbol as well. The wordmark becomes more memorable when combined with that abstract symbol. Continue to revise, and let me know when new roughs are added and I'll provide comments!
